Body and Mind First Aid
One Day Course
Developed by MHFA Wales and St John Cymru Wales, this one-day course will give delegates an awareness of Physical and Mental First Aid. Delegates will get an overview of what mental health is and what factors can affect wellbeing. Coupled with an awareness of Physical First Aid. The course teaches delegates practical skills to spot the signs of both physical First aid and mental illness to allow them to begin to understand the way in which both Body and Mind awareness can help those around them.
Who should attend?
This course is suitable for those who want to gain an awareness of the skills to have a non-judgmental conversation, recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues and provide basic First Aid until suitable aid is available.
What you will learn?
Body First Aid
• Managing an emergency
• Communication & casualty care
• Unresponsive casualty (adult)
• Bleeding (minor & severe)
• Chest pains – Panic Attacks
• Conditions affecting the Airway
• Resuscitation (adult)
Mind First Aid
• What is mental health
• How common are mental health problems
• The impact of mental ill health
• Stress and anxiety
• Stress reduction
• Supporting someone in need
One day – Body 3 hours – Mind First Aid 3 hours.
There is no formal assessment for this course but delegates must complete all sections of the course.
On completion of the course, delegates will receive a Mental Health First Aider certificate.
